OpenAI has unveiled two new AI reasoning models: o3 and o4-mini.
The o3 model is described as the company’s most advanced reasoning system, while the o4-mini is a smaller, more efficient model offering impressive performance at a lower cost.

Both models introduce the ability to reason with images by integrating visual inputs like sketches and whiteboards into their thought processes.
They can also manipulate images—zooming or rotating them—as part of their analysis.
Furthermore, the models can now autonomously employ various ChatGPT tools, such as web search, Python, image analysis and generation, and file interpretation.
These enhanced capabilities are now available to ChatGPT Plus, Pro, and Team users through the o3, o4-mini, and o4-mini-high models, with o3-pro set to receive access in the coming weeks.
The roll-out coincides with the recent unveiling of OpenAI’s GPT-4.1 model, demonstrating the company’s rapid progress in AI development. Older models like o1, o3-mini, and o3-mini-high will be phased out from higher-tier user plans.
