Steam Rolls Out New Review System: Significant Update to User Review Sorting

Steam recently announced an update to its user review system with the introduction of a new “Review Value System,” now in public testing. This system aims to prioritize reviews that provide valuable insights for potential buyers, moving away from the previous sorting method based on the number of “helpful” votes a review received.

  • New Sorting Method: The system will now prioritize reviews that offer meaningful content for purchase decisions, pushing reviews that contain jokes, memes, or ASCII art further down the page.
  • User Control: The new system is enabled by default but allows users to switch back to the previous version in the settings.

Steam clarified that this change only affects the order of reviews displayed on store pages and does not influence the overall review score of a game.
