The Center for Countering Digital Hate (CCDH) found that Elon Musk posted at least 87 misleading claims about the U.S. election on X, viewed over 2 billion times. Musk, who has donated over $118 million to a pro-Trump super PAC, has reportedly amplified these posts using X’s algorithms.
Since Musk’s endorsement of Trump in July, his political posts have drawn 17 billion views, equivalent to $24 million in ad spending. CCDH notes that Musk’s posts often push unfounded claims about voter ID and “imported voters.”
CCDH CEO Imran Ahmed criticized X’s approach, saying Musk’s actions make X a “disinformation machine,” especially with AI reducing the cost of generating misinformation. Musk, meanwhile, has called CCDH a “criminal organization” in response to its findings.
