Meta Extends Overlay Banner Ads to Instagram Reels

Meta has added an overlay banner ad placement to Instagram Reels to engage users with banner ads while they are watching Instagram Reels.

This move is in line with Meta’s monetization strategy to monetize Reels on its platform, following the launch of overlay banner ads on Facebook Reels.

Details:

  • Two formats: single image ads and image carousel ads.
  • Appears as a banner ad at the bottom of the screen during Reels playback.

Instagram Reels is a fast-growing content type with high user engagement. This update enables advertisers to reach and engage this audience more effectively.

How to set up this placement:

1.At the ad group level, select Manual placement;

2.In Manual placement, check → overlay and post-loop ads on Reels

Meta is currently rolling out these features gradually, and some advertisers’ ad accounts may not support this feature, but don’t worry, Meta will gradually expand and be available to all advertisers soon.
