Meta confirmed layoffs on Wednesday across several teams, including Reality Labs, Instagram, and WhatsApp, as part of a strategy to realign resources with its long-term goals. Among those impacted was Jane Manchun Wong, a software engineer known for uncovering new features in Meta apps.
While Meta stated that Threads, recruiting, and legal operations were not affected, the company did not disclose how many employees were laid off. Some were offered new positions, while others chose severance packages, with notifications delivered via video calls.
These layoffs continue a trend at Meta, which has reduced its workforce significantly after aggressive hiring during the pandemic, including the layoff of 11,000 employees in 2022 and another 10,000 in 2023.
