Judge Orders Google to Open Play Store to Rivals

A U.S. judge has ordered Google to allow rival app stores on Google Play, giving Android users more options for downloading apps. Starting November 1, Google can no longer pay developers for exclusive launches or force them to use its billing system. The ruling also requires Google to let third-party app stores access Google Play’s app catalog. Google plans to appeal, claiming these changes could harm its ability to compete with Apple’s iOS.
