Google’s Project Astra, aimed at creating advanced AI-powered apps and agents for real-time, multimodal tasks, won’t be ready for users until 2025, CEO Sundar Pichai revealed during Google’s Q3 earnings call. Unveiled at Google I/O 2024, Astra includes tools that recognize surroundings, answer questions, and perform tasks autonomously. A demo showcased a prototype identifying neighborhoods or bike parts through a phone camera.
Originally, some reports suggested a consumer-focused AI agent might arrive by December. However, the Astra-linked release now appears delayed, as tech giants continue to navigate the complexities of building reliable AI agents for everyday use.
