Brazil’s X Platform Controversy Escalates: Judge Orders Complete Blockade

The dispute between Brazilian Supreme Court Justice Alexandre de Moraes and social platform X (formerly Twitter) continues to intensify. Following X’s refusal to delete certain account content, de Moraes has implemented a series of stringent measures:

  1. Ordering national ISPs to block X-related domains within 24 hours
  2. Freezing Brazilian bank accounts of Starlink, another company owned by X’s owner Elon Musk
  3. Demanding Apple and Google remove the X app within 5 days
  4. Imposing daily fines of about $8,900 on users accessing X via VPN

These actions may severely impact X’s accessibility and ad revenue in Brazil. Musk has already closed X’s operations in Brazil, though users can still access the platform. Currently, both sides remain at an impasse, making it unlikely for X to resume normal operations in Brazil in the near term.
