DHL Bans $800+ Packages to the U.S.! What This Means for Global Shoppers

DHL Halts U.S. Shipments Over $800 from Global Consumers Amid Customs Shake-Up

DHL has announced it will suspend all business-to-consumer (B2C) shipments valued over $800 to the United States starting April 21. The decision follows changes in U.S. customs regulations, which now require formal clearance procedures for any goods exceeding the $800 threshold. The company clarified that the suspension is temporary.

According to DHL’s official site, although no specific date was listed in the notice, internal data suggests it was finalized on Saturday. DHL explained that the move is in response to updated U.S. customs rules requiring formal entry processes for higher-value shipments.

The courier stressed that business-to-business (B2B) shipments will not be affected by this measure, although some delays may occur. Packages valued below $800, whether for businesses or consumers, remain unaffected.

Last week, DHL said it would comply with U.S. customs requirements for shipments originating from Hong Kong and work with customers to adapt to the new rules set to take effect on May 2.

This comes shortly after Hongkong Post announced it would suspend all sea freight services to the U.S., criticizing the American government for unilaterally revoking duty-free shipping privileges for parcels from China and Hong Kong.
