Opera adds its Aria AI assistant to Opera Mini on Android

Opera has announced that its AI assistant, Aria, is now available on the Opera Mini browser for Android. This integration aims to enhance the browsing experience by providing users with AI-powered assistance without increasing the app’s size.

Aria can assist users in accessing the latest news, exploring various topics, and generating images. Opera utilizes a combination of models from OpenAI and Google to deliver relevant responses.

“AI is rapidly becoming an integral part of the daily internet experience – bringing Aria to Opera Mini is a natural addition to our most-downloaded browser. With the addition of our built-in AI, Aria, we’re excited to explore how AI can further enhance the feature set our users rely on every day,” said Jørgen Arnesen, EVP Mobile at Opera.

Opera Mini, launched in 2005, is known for helping users save data while browsing. The company asserts that even with the introduction of Aria, the browser continues to be data-efficient without increasing the app’s size.

Opera reports that Opera Mini has been downloaded over a billion times on Android and boasts more than 100 million users worldwide. According to app analytics firm Appfigures, Opera Mini has recorded 7.1 million downloads globally this year.

Beyond integrating Aria across its applications, Opera has been experimenting with AI features, including natural language prompts for tab control and an operator to assist users in completing tasks autonomously.
